Thank's for your interest in helping with the 'Vo-Tech website project. The Lee Vo-Tech site is visited each day by surfers from within the school system, the community, and from around the world. We have recorded 'hits' from around the globe, including Japan, Australia, as well as (get this) Novell, Microsoft, and Boeing Aircraft. Following are a few general guidelines for the site: |
| Overview: | This is a 'school' website. It must reflect a professional atmosphere. Look at sites of the most successful organizations for ideas. Pages should load quickly. Oh, check your spellun (and mine). | ||||||
| Logo: | If your page bears the Lee Vo-Tech logo at the top it should be linked to the home page, and, the page background should be white | ||||||
| Filenames: | All filenames must follow DOS standards. That is, an eight character
name + . + three character extension (ex: xxxxxxxx.htm).
The HTML document has the '.HTM' extension. |

| Navigation: | All pages should include a link to the previous page and to the main page (http://vo-tech.leectysch.com). | ||||||
| Colors: | Use basic colors for text and background and look at the page in both 16 and 256 colors. Photographs won't do well in 16 colors but the rest of the page should be compatible. Look at it in 16 and 256 colors to see which colors stay the same. | ||||||
| Backgrounds: | Use light colors with dark text. | ||||||
| Fonts: | Remember that the font must be resident on the computer 'reading' the page. Stick with standard fonts. | ||||||
| Resolution: | The page should be equally effective in both 640x480 and 800x600 screen resolutions. | ||||||
| Graphics: | Large graphic files load very slow. Try to stay below 12 to 14 K bytes if at all possible. Again, test the page in 16 & 256 colors. | ||||||
| Javascript: | Test the script in both Netscape and MS Explorer. Don't assume. And, stay away from 'tricks'. (hit the refresh button if it's stays blue) | ||||||
| Frames: | All outside links should be to TARGET="_top". | ||||||
| Sound: | Use small files. We suggest MIDI. Again, test with both Netscape and MS Explorer. | ||||||
| Credits: | You may add a line at the bottom of the page saying "Page designed by J Doe" if you wish. The text size should be smaller than the main text. Do not scroll the status bar, it annoys people. | ||||||
| DO NOT: | Do not, for any reason, place copyrighted text or graphics on your
page without written permission from the owner. Also, we cannot advertise a private business. |

| Templates: | Use one of the sample startup templates if you wish. You must save
the document and images to your hard drive before you can edit them.

| Approval: | All web pages will be reviewed by Vo-Tech Administration before posting to the Internet. | ||||||
| Submission: | Save and complete the document "submit.txt" and submit it with your HTML document(s). |
