The flag of island of Socotra is plain red and has the island's name in white
(Arab writing) on it. I have no idea about the how and when of this flag.
It is on a color print on old Yemenite flags issued by the Flag Institute.
Before independence in 1964 (under the name South Arabia) the area was divided
into many emirates and sultanates (besides the Aden crown colony), many of
which were using flags. Perhaps Socotra was one of them.
