During the presidential election campaign in Russia earlier this summer, I noticed candidate Alexander Lebed being interviewed on TV in front of a couple of flags (hanging on the wall behind him). The first flag was the Russia white-blue-red with a large light blue canton (covering the two upper bands) containing a white star. In the centre of the star appeared a dark blue disk with a triangle in orange. The second flag consisted of the light blue canton only. Any ideas what this flag might be? The only clue to me is the orange triangle on blue.

I belive blue circle with the orange triangle is worldwide accepted symbol of civil defence, and this was, also my first association whan I read your description. But, what it has to do with Lebed, I have no clue.
The other flag without the symbol, might, as well, be the same flag, but from reverse. Haven't we heard that the SU flag was determined to be with a plain reverse, so this can be the case also.

There was a report today on TV on the electional campaign in Russia. There were images from several manifestations, but the main news were about Zyuganov. On one of those gatherings there were several 'Imperial' flags (black over golden [this one was in fact very lemon yellow] over white), but there was also this one flag that I don't recognize. At that very moment the speaker was mentioning Zhirinovski so it might be that it is the flag of his party. The colours of the flag also suggest that it might be related to nazi flags (as much as Zhirinovski suggest the same)
I describe the flag: red with a white saltire fimbrated black. The upper fimbration seemed to me widther then the lower one, but I am not sure if this is the same on the lower part of saltire (which was much covered by the heads of the crowd).
I am quite shure that what I saw was not the Russian Naval Ensign, tough this flag is shurely related to it. I am quite shure about the black fimbration, tough it might have been very (_very_) dark blue.
