Andersson argues that king Erik of Pomerania planned to adopt such a flag in 1430. Erik was king of Denmark, Norway and Sweden from 1397 to 1439 (Union of Kalmar). The flag is probably an inversion of the emblem of the archbishops of the Catholic church in Scandinavia, a red field with a yellow cross (now used by Scania). The flag was revived in 1985 for the 900th anniversary celebrations of the city of Helsingborg. It is also used on Norden Day, 25 June, to commemorate the coronation of King Erik.
