Adopted Flag

The flag was finaly adopted on 05-NOV-1996.

Green on the flag and golden fleur-de-lys on green shield on the arms stand for Bosnian Muslims (Bosniaks) and red on the flag and chequy shiled for Bosnian Croats. The ten golden stars on blue, it is said represent the 10 regions (velezupa, pl. velezupe; with hachek over z) of the Federation
Before the adoption of the flag, there were three flags hoisted in the sessions of the Parlament of Federation - the flag of B&H; (white whith arms), the flag of Bosian Muslims (green-white-green 1:2:1 with crescent), and the flag of Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosnia (i.e. the flag of Bosnian Croats, red-white-blue with chequy arms).

Proposals for the Flag

There was on TV last night that there is a competition going on for the new flag of Federation in Bosnia. I havent seen it , but I was told that it is probably going to be a combination of Croatian checkered gules-argent, and Muslim fleurs-de-lys or. < /P>

The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is made by so called Washington agreement (if I remember right some time a year ago) among Bosnian Muslims and Bosnian Croats, consisting of teritories held by both Croatian Defence Councily (HVO) and Sarajevo gov't troups (Armija BiH). As is the situation on the field now it is approximately 50% of B&H.; The Federation is suposed to be one of the two entities in B&H; according to plan of Holbrook's shoutle diplomacy (the other would be Republic of Srpska). What would be of it, we will see, but obviously thay are trying to make a flag for it.
Until now, two flags has been used. By Sarajevo gov't was made a Bosnian flag well known, with flour-de-lys design, and by Croatian Republic of Herceg-Bosna (HRHB) one very similar to flag of Croatia was used.

I was trying to find any mention of that in newspaper, but I didn't sucseed.

On the news today, and in the newspapers, there has been shown the proposal for the new flag of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As I understood, the proposal is quite serious, and will be discussed on the next session of the Parliament. There are, in fact, two proposals shown: two coats of arms, and two matching flags. They both agree with what I reported some time ago thet it will be combination of checquy, and fleur-de-lys.

Both proposals makes that two elements in most simple way, basically Checquy Gules and Argent, and Fleur-de-lys Or on Vert. Both arms are just shield, of the 'nordic' tipe, i.e. very simple in form.

First proposal combines them in a way that the shield is devided diagonally zig-zag, in the way that a row of white fields is completely wisible. In uppre part there is a fleur-de-lys.

The maching flag have it in the middle in a way similar to croatian flag, i.e. the shield comes across all the stripes. The flag itself is horisontally red over white over green.

The second one is vertically devided. Left (heraldicaly) is Gules chief checquy Gules and Argent, right Vert Fleur-de-lys Or.

The flag to go with this one was shown as a banner of the arms and in vertical form aprox. 3:2. I am not including the image of it.

The fleur de lys is probably a bit bigger then I represented it (I was trying to be fast with the info).
