Taiwanese flag at Olimpics

by zeljko heimer 27-JUL-1996

At the Olympics, it's called "Chinese Taipei" and the athletes compete under the Olympic flag. I don't think the Taiwanese flag has official status anywhere that recognized Red China, i.e. most of the world these days. When the President of Taiwan came to Cornell last summer, our Collegetown district was covered with Taiwanese flags -- it was really quite impressive. But Cornell flew Taiwanese flags at the official reception, too. That, combined with the Cornell President's introduction of the man as "President Lee" caused quite a furor among the scholars here from the PRC.
