Presentation of Upper Badakhstan
Full name: Gorno-Badakhstan Autonomous Area.
Location: Central Asia.
Status: Part of the Republic of Tajikistan
Notes: 'Mountainous Badakhstan' was granted autonomy in 1925. It is a high
altitude district in eastern Tajikistan.

In Russian gorno also means "upper". I don't know whether
a lower (dolno) Badakhstan exists or not.
