Explanation of flag

Use of the traditional Pan-African colors. The five stripes represent the regions or ethnic groups. The star is for hope. The red color is for the struggle for independence.

Presentation of Togo

Full name: République Togolaise or République du Togo
Situation: West Africa
A Short History:
A German colony at the end of the 19th century. British and French forces invaded Togo on 12 August 1914 and the German administration surrendered on 26 August 1914. Under joint military administration. In 1922 Togo was partitioned, the Western part or Togoland was administered by Britain with Gold Coast, the East by France as Togo. In 1957 the East became an autonomous republic as the british sector joined independent Ghana. Independent since 27 April 1960.

Explanation of flag

In 1957 Togo adopted a green flag with two stars (For Frenh Togo and British Togoland). The flags include the French trocolor in the canton. Used 1957-1958. The color and disposition of the stars is not certain (c.f. the flag from Mark Sensen). After sometime of autonomy, Togo adopted the same flag withouth the french tricolour. Used probably 1958-1960. Flags are drawn in a ratio of 3:5.
