Red with in the upper hoist yellow Armenian script initials (HSSR) in serif. Yellow hammer and sickle above.
In a 100 years old encyclopedia I found the Armenian alphabet and tried to transcribe the initials. The first symbol I couldn't find quickly, but the most similar one was indeed an "H". The two symbols that look like Latin "U" are Armenian "S". The last symbol is an "R". To see what this abbreviation stands for, I also transcribed the words written on the coat of arms of the Armenian SSR and got this: "Haygagan Suovyedagan Soyialisdagan Rhyesbuoipliga" that means, of course, "Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic".
