Full name: Not known. Formally the Chukot Autonomous Area.
Location: Extreme north-east of Russia.
Status: Self-proclaimed constituent of the Russian Federation. Exact legal
status unclear.
Notes: A 'Free State of Chutkotka' existed in the early 1920s. It used a
national tricolour of white-yellow-blue stripes. No firm evidence seems to
exist as to whether this flag has been re-adopted. In 1990 the region
unilaterally upgraded itself to an Autonomous Republic, in a move so far
unrecognized by Moscow.
