I think the position of Nauru's star is intended to reflect its position vis-a-vis the International Dateline. Can anyone confirm this?

I thought it was so as to look more like the Australian flag...

I just checked in Whitney Smith's Flag book and he confirms this. "The geographical position... of Nauru find graphic expression in the symbolism of its flag... The island is just one degree south of the equator... to the east of the international date line, hence the yellow horizontal stripe on blue nad the off-center star immediately below the stripe.
