On Gibraltarian Flag

White flag with a red base, in the middle red castle, a yellow key hanging from it.
I like this flag very much, since it is so descriptive. It makes me think of the 'Key of Mediterainan' emediately.
As I understud, there was no 'blue duster' flag for Gibraltar. GI became British in 1713, but it flew Union Jack until 1966.

There is, but not in the sense I suspect you mean (ie. for use as a colonial flag on land.) A blue ensign with the coat of arms in the fly is used by shipping in Government service. (The Gibraltarian flag is the banner of the arms.)

William Crampton says in its Observers FLAGS, editions Frederick Warne, London 1991, that the use of the arms as a basis for the flags was regularized in 1982.
