Heligoland is an island in the North Sea, strategically placed vis-a-vis the mouths of the Weser, Elbe and Kiel Canal. The United Kingdom obtained it from Denmark in 1805 and swapped it with Germany for Zanzibar in 1890. It had its own flag, horizontal green, red, white, with a Union Jack in the canton.
