the slogan is of the conspiration of Minas Gerais (Inconfidencia Mineira). The form and design of the flag were made on the model idealized by the leaders of the liberation movement, of 1789, which would be adopted by the Republic that they planned to create. According to what is declared by Tiradentes, the triangle reminds the Three Persons of the Trinity.

The flag of the state was instituted on 8 January 1963. It consists of a white flag with a red triangle in the center, symbol of the nationalist conspiracy of 1789, known as the "inconfidencia mineira" and that according to the statement of Jose Joaquin Silva Xavier, named "Tiradentes" (1748 - 1792) was representing at three persons of the Trinidad) and the words LIBERTAS - QUAE SERA -TAMEN, motto of the conspiracy ( I don't know much Latin but means something like: "in spite of all will be free"). The flag had to serve as symbol to the state that the conspirators were intending to create.
