Name: Azerbaijan Republic
Location: Caucauses
Status: Internationally recognized independent state since 30 August 1991.
Notes: The flag in use is the same as that used by the Azerbaijan Democratic
Republic from 1918 until it was occupied by the Communists in 1920. The eight
stars stand for the eight Turkic peoples. Light blue is a traditional colour
of the Turkic peoples; green is for their Islamic religion. The red is for
modernization and progress.
