I came accross the 'Meyers Konversations-Lexikon', Leipzig & Wien 1897,
a perle among lexicons.
First thing to do was, of course, to open it at 'Flagge'. There is a plate
with flags of the states, and accompanying it a list with descriptions of
flags (in German ;-/ )
Republic of Argentina: Blue-white-blue horizontal. W have a golden sun in
first third of the white stripe.
zeljko heimer - 1996-09-16
1913: In the state ensign the sun is only as tall as the white stripe, and
it is closer to the hoist. 1941: same as today.

In Internet I found the national flag of Argentina provided by you, and I
have to inform you that the blue parts should not be dark blue but cyan,
which is the colour resulting from the mixture of blue and green. Blue mixed
with some white is also acceptable, but saturated blue definitely not.
Followers of the Partido Justicialista prefer cyan, those of the anterior
Uni'on C'ivica Radical government preferred whitish blue. So, anything in
between is acceptable also. Argentinians call the main colour of their national
flag "celeste" (that is colour of the day sky at the normal angles of
sight).
Please, make the appropiate change.

I corrected the GIF and I hope it's right this time.

This is the flag of the President of Argentina.
colours: backgound blue pale ("celeste") and stars white. Coat-of-Arms
multicolor.
Ratio: 2:3.
I dont know the date of adoption, but it was in use before 1910.

The Council of the City of Buenos has just approved a new flag for this city,
the capital of Argentina. In fact, the flag was originally designed by the
Spanish founder Don Juan de Garay, c. 1530. It quite an attractive flag,
a white square, with a full fledge crowned black eagle, holding the red cross
of Calatrava in the right leg (sorry, no way to produce .gif). The new flag
has encountered some resistance, as it depicts an imperial symbol and it
seems to resemble some kind of domination from Spain. 'La fiel ciudad de
Santa Maria de los Buenos Aires' (the faithful city of St Mary of the Good
Airs... a name probably proper for 1530 but an overstatement today!) has
recoved its flag.

The Argentine state of Formosa has recently adopted a new flag, its first, according to NAVA member Gustavo Tracchia, an Argentine.
The field is celeste, like the national flag, the green laurals crossing the flag represent the Tropic of Capricorn.
Flag of Los Andes Army (1817-1818).
Was used for the independentist army of Rio de la Plata and Chile provinces,
in the Andes region.
The draw is based in photocopie posted to me for John Fetzer.

When ceremonially carried, the Argentine flag is subject to certain particular and elaborated practices, ie:
The law requires that an Argentine National Pavillion (a carrying flag) shall be:
As you can easily imagine, ceremonial flags (which are a must in Schools,
Scout Groups, etc) are *expensive*. In my last check, the full set will cost
around US$ 800! Flag are always carried with at least two 'escoltas' (escorts).
Flag bearers are usually selected through a careful screening process, and
even in the school there is strong competition to achieve the honour.
