Global Job Skills
Integrating:
Academic,
Special Ed, and
Vocational Education
Project SUCCESS seeks
to use team teaching and curriculum integration while addressing the theme
Job Skills for a Workplace.
Using John Dewey's
philosophy, we plan to make school life more active and more relevant
to out-of-school experiences.
According to the Mid-Atlantic
Guide to Career Information, ten of the most
wanted job skills for the 1990s include: analytical thinking, researching,
organizing, speaking, writing, human and interpersonal relations, quantitative
and scientific reasoning, ethics, an understanding of technology, and career
planning. While preparing lesson plans and activities for the semester,
we kept these ten skills in mind.

The ten job skills we
are emphasizing have been included in: teamwork,
technology, and career
planning.

The teachers involved
are from Lee Vocational-Technical School
and from Lee High School in Ben
Hur, Virginia. The teachers and their
program areas are: Teresa Burgan, Business; Linda Myers, Work and Family
Studies; Loudema Gilliam, Foreign Languages; Lisa Phipps, English; and
Rob Widener, Special Education.
With assistance from Dr.
Susan Asselin, Dr.
Pat Kelly, Dr. Steve Parson,
and the late Dr. Nevin Frantz from Virgnia
Tech, we have finished the planning stage of our project.
