Electricity is a two-year course certificate program that prepares individuals for a career in electricity and related industry fields. Courses in mathematics and technical writing are blended with a collection of industrial technologies. What Is a Certificate?

A certificate is the recognition given by the Lee County Career and Technical Center for vocational achievement in a particular field of study. the Electricity certificate includes study in areas of electrical theory, residential & commercial code. Dual enrollment through Mountain Empire Community College leading to degree programs. Credits from this certificate are also accepted by the Virginia Occupation Electrician that allows acceptance into the Journeyman's program leading to a Master Electrician.

Course Descriptions

Electricity I
Students will be given basic instruction on Electrical Theory. Covers the fundamentals of residential power distribution, circuits, panels, fuse boxes, breakers, transformers.

Electricity II
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of electricity. terminology, symbols, and diagrams. The principles essential to the understanding of general practices, safety and the practical aspect of residential and nonresidential wiring and electrical installation.

Electricity III
Students will be introduced to electrical troubleshooting and servicing electrical controls, electric motors, motor controls, motor starters, relays, overloads, instruments and control circuits. Includes application of panels, and transformers, experiments to develop testing and troubleshooting techniques.
